Judicial panel hearing deferred as Mukroh residents are busy for polls
Shillong, Feb 26: The judicial inquiry into Mukroh firing incident that claimed five lives in Meghalaya and one in Assam could not proceed much as the villagers are busy for elections.
The one-man panel headed by T Vaiphei in his order on February 3 had directed to issue notice to the headman Hamboydei Sumer and the JHADC MDC Aiburlong Shadap to get their versions as no one from the victims’ family or the local residents came forward to give their statements.
They were supposed to send their views by February 17
The commission had already obtained the statements of Assam police, head of the Assam forest department and the Meghalaya police.
During the hearing on February 17, Vaiphei noted that the headman had informed the secretary of the commission regarding the inability of the villagers to give thier statements due to the Assembly polls.
They requested to grant more time.
The headman also conveyed the same.
Hence, the commission fixed March 17 as the next date of hearing and hoped that the statements supported by affidavits will be ready by then.
