Judicial panel on coal mine tragedy hears officials & others

Shillong, May 8: Justice (Retd.)RS Chauhan-led inquiry commission on Thangsko coal mine blast in East Jaintia Hills, held three-day sittings.
The members of the commission are PS Dkhar and H Nongpluh.
In a statement issued on Friday (May 8), the secretary of the commission said the commission held a three-day sitting from May 6 at State Guest House, here.
During the sitting on May 6, the commission recorded submissions made by the Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (PCCF) and Head of Forest (HoFF), Shillong, Central Mine Planning and Design Institute Ltd. (CMPDIL), Ranchi, Ministry of Coal, New Delhi and Director of Directorate of Mineral Resources (DMR), Shillong
During the sitting on May 7, the commission recorded the submission made by Shallang Area Traders Association, West Khasi Hills, South West Khasi Hills Mine Owners and Exporters Association.
During the sitting on May 8, the commission recorded the submission made by North Eastern Space Application Centre (NESAC), Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM), and the relatives of the victims.
The next sitting of the commission will be held from July 13 to 15.
The commission will visit the incident site on July 13, and continue to conduct the enquiry.
“In this regard, the commission has issued a public notice in English and local newspapers and those who wish to depose or make further submissions may do so by writing to the Secretary, Commission of Inquiry, Room 228, Main Building, Meghalaya Secretariat, Shillong or by emailing at commission.inquirymeg@gmail.com”, the secretary added.
