Just one month for polls, BJP has no other option than to stick with MDA

Shillong, Jan 27: The BJP’s threat to pull of the NPP-led MDA government did not materialise as the party wants the support of the MDA partners in the fluid election scenario in the state.

BJP’s Meghalaya in-charge Chuba Ao on Friday told reporters that the party has decided not to pull out of the MDA government.

At the same time, he did not want to offend the MDA coalition partners by saying that everything is possible after the elections as far as the government formation is concerned.

“We are in a coalition government…If we pull out, the blame will come to us and we don’t want the blame to come to us. Let us complete the term peacefully” Ao said.

To a question as to whether the BJP will work with the NPP after the elections, Ao said, “In politics, everything is possible.”.

When asked whether the BJP is open to work with the opposition AITC in Meghalaya, the BJP leader said the matter will be discussed when the time comes.

The party is fielding candidates in all the 60 seats.

“We are very comfortable to win with a complete majority. We are a national party, we have to take all regional parties together because we are not like other parties. we will take everybody as we have to run the country.”

Candidate announcement by Feb 2

The party will announce the list of candidates from the 60 constituencies by February 2.

“We have prepared the list today and we are going to send it to Delhi immediately and we are going to declare the names of candidates within February 2,” BJP state president Ernest Mawrie told reporters after a meeting of the party’s state election committee (SEC).

He said the party will field candidates from all the 60 constituencies and added that the party is fielding not less than 10 women candidates this time from constituencies like Shella, Jirang, Nongpoh, Selsella, Dalu, Mawkyrwat and others.
