KAS takes up Khasi language issue with Shah

Shillong, July 24: A delegation of Khasi Authors’ Society met Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday and took up the issue of recognition to Khasi language.

President of Khasi Authors’ Society, DRL Nonglait said that Shah did not give any assurance as to when the language will be included in the 8th schedule to the constitution.

“Khasi language has had a very long literary tradition and we told him that since other smaller communities like Manipuris and Bodos can have their languages included in the 8th schedule, it is high time that  Khasi is also included since it has a longer literary tradition than any other languages in the North East”, Nonglait said.
