Katakey holds first meeting with govt on coal issue

Shillong,May 9: Retired justice BP Katakey, who was entrusted by the High Court to monitor illegal coal mining and related aspects, held a meeting with the government officials in the city, on Monday

Earlier, after Katakey had sought a report on the coal issue, the government submitted the same but the former sought further clarifications.

Katakey said after the meeting that the government was asked to provide answers to some more clarifications sought by him.

He said one more meeting will be held following which he will submit his report to the court.

According to Katakey, the court wanted expeditious disposal of already extracted coal before the ban on rat-hole coal mining was imposed in April 2014 and adherence to the final Supreme Court ruling in 2019 and the NGT orders to stop illegal coal mining and transportation.
