Kinnar Annual Day celebrated in Guwahati
Guwahati, Jan 11: Rainbow Home of Seven Sisters celebrated Kinnar Annual Day recently at Agora Space here.
The chief guest of the programme was Najma Mukherjee, an eminent Assamese-language author and former Professor of Assamese at Cotton University. Her latest novel, Chinaki Chuburi, featuring an intersex protagonist, explores the fluidity of identity and alternative lifestyles.
In her address, Mukherjee spoke about the historical existence of the Kinnar community and acknowledged their profound struggles for identity and survival.
She stressed the importance of not “othering” any community, but rather of normalising gender diversity while celebrating individual identity differences.
The programme also witnessed the presence of Kinnar Guru Nisha along with other Kinnar community members.
