KSU detains migrant workers
Shillong, June 13: The KSU, Kynshi Circle, has detained 28 illegal migrant labourers at Kynshi village in West Khasi Hills district.
The president of the circle, Wankular Samkmie, informed that most of the apprehended migrant workers are from Assam and Uttar Pradesh.
“They were found entering the village illegally without any valid documents which include work permit,” Wankular said in a statement.
He informed that the migrant labourers replied that they were able to come to the village after passing through the various check gates without any checking.
The migrant workers were engaged for black topping of a road to Rongjeng by the CCL International Limited as informed by its manager Jay Kishore.
The KSU handed over the labourers to the police in Mairang.
The union condemned the failure of the state government to check unregulated entry of people from outside the state during Covid.
