According to the agreement, the persons involved in the death of Oriwel Timung, son of late Pang-eh Timung, a resident of Tapat, will be arrested, and the investigation to be fast-tracked.

The clash between the Pnar and Karbi villagers recently led to the death of the farmer.

“If the accused are not arrested, then during next crop cycle, peace and tranquility will be difficult to maintain”, the agreement said.

On Wednesday, the agreement was unanimously decided by the headman of Lapangap Deimonmi Lyngdoh and his Tapat counterpart Olingson Timung, Sarkari Gaun Bura Daniel Hanse & Gaun Bura Royal Teron in the presence of witnesses of both administrations and police personnel of Assam and Meghalaya:

It was agreed that the residents of Tapat and Lapangap will not discuss the territorial jurisdiction of the land involved in dispute; rather, it will be decided by the appropriate government authorities.

Community plantation, cattle rearing and other agriculture-related activities will be allowed with prior information and proper communication to avoid any misunderstanding.

It was also decided that, henceforth, for maintaining peace and harmony in the region, both villages should amicably resolve all routine disputes together with mutual agreement and understanding.
