RESOLUTION OF THE EMERGENT JOINT EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE
MEETING OF THE HIGH COURT OF MEGHALAYA BAR ASSOCIATION
AND THE SHILLONG BAR ASSOCIATION held on 31st August 2026.
Following a thorough discussion on the next course of action and in
pursuant to the resolution taken at the Joint General Body meeting of All Bar
Associations of the State held on the 24th of August 2026 where the house
have unanimously adopted that the High Court of Meghalaya Bar Association
and Shillong Bar Association shall further pursue the demand for removal of
Shri. Amit Kumar as the Advocate General of Meghalaya, the Joint Executive
Committee of the High Court Of Meghalaya Bar Association and the Shillong Bar Association have resolved today that all lawyers shall abstain from work effective from 1st September 2026.
The resolution is taken after the joint executive committee had
expressed that despite the aforesaid demand which culminated after the
damage to the dignity, welfare and interest of the Bar, caused by the action
and conduct of Shri. Amit Kumar, the State till date have not shown any interest
to communicate the Associations and to address their demand;
And whereas, in view of the prevailing circumstances, the Emergent
Joint Meeting of the two Associations, has felt that this is the appropriate
course of action to press for achieving the demand which is purely for the
interest of the legal fraternity of the State as a whole;
Now, therefore, it is unanimously resolved as follows:
1. That all advocates practising before all Courts and Tribunals in the State
of Meghalaya SHALL abstain from judicial work with effect from 1st
September, 2026.
2. That the said abstention shall continue until the Government of
Meghalaya removes Amit Kumar from the office of Advocate General
3. That the said abstention shall not apply to BAIL MATTERS
4. That the resolution is adopted unanimously by the Joint Executive
Committee of H\gh Court of Meghalaya Bar Association and the Shillong
Bar Association.
5. That this resolution be given wide circulation amongst the members of
all the Bar Associations of the State of Meghalaya to abstain from judicial
work as aforementioned.
Resolved accordingly on this 31st day of August, 2026.
