Lifting ban on fertilisers defeats mission organic: Mukul

Shillong, Aug 20: Leader of Opposition Mukul Sangma from the AITC  said the decision of the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government to lift the ban on use of fertilisers will mess up the mission organic in the state.

Speaking to reporters, Sangma said with the decision of the government, investment on the organic mission has gone down the drain.

“Let them tell the prime minister why they have messed up the whole thing and ultimately the whole mission resulting in this kind of flip-flop after so much of money has been invested not only from the state’s own resources but even the resources which were passed on to the state government by Government of India,” Mukul said.

“There is a total lack of knowledge on the part of the incumbent government.I have always said that there is a need for an in-depth understanding by any policy maker so that any decision arrived at and arrived at for implementation does not back fire. So you have to ask them why in the first instance they came up with this promise. They didn’t understand the policy decision that was embarking upon by the government. Therefore, little learning is dangerous”, he said.

The former chief minister also said the effort of the state government  regarding mission organic was highly appreciated by everyone and hence  it was acknowledged and encouraged by the Prime Minister.

“The prime minister himself referred to our various initiatives to encourage organic farming,” he added.
