Live-in partner held for woman’s murder

Shillong, June 15: A live-in partner was arrested for allegedly killing a woman in Mawlai Nongmali on Wednesday night.
East Khasi Hills police said the incident happened around 10 pm.
After the police found the body of the victim identified as Steffanie Lyngdoh Nonglait (30) in her bedroom, the man was interrogated.
Police arrested the suspect (35) under section 302 IPC after the sister of the victim lodged a complaint.
Earlier, the secretary of Mawlai Nongmali had informed the police at Mawlai police station regarding the matter.
When asked whether the woman was pregnant, a police official said only the post mortem report can reveal this.
Police are yet to reveal whether the murder has anything to do with the victim questioning the alleged affair of the man.
The CSWO president, Agnes Kharshiing condemned the murder of the woman and demanded that cases of violence and murder should not be lingering in Meghalaya and such perpetrators of violence should not be given bail, and violence cannot be promoted in Meghalaya.
