Lumparing gets ‘greenery children’s park’
Shillong,June 4: On the eve of World Environment Day, Arts and Culture Minister and local MLA Sanbor Shullai opened a ‘greenery children’s park’ in Lumparing Mynsain, on Saturday.
Shullai said the park was constructed with Rs 26 lakh provided from the central scheme of Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT).
He said the forest department provided the land.
The function was organised by Lumparing Welfare Society in collaboration with Lumparing Women’s Cultural Society.
Lumparing Women’s Cultural Society said it was a long cherished desire of the residents to have a children’s park.
The plan was there for more than 20 years and a prominent resident of the area, late Romen Das had taken the initiative.
Later, Late Dr Sudip Dey also followed up the matter, said his wife and president Lumparing Women’s Cultural Society.
She thanked the forest department for parting with the land.
The general secretary of the Society, Satarupa Dad said the facility will help the overall growth of children.
Various cultural programmes were held on the occasion.
