Mamata cries vaccine discrimination by Centre

Kolkata, July 15 (UNI): Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday charged the Centre with discrimination against West Bengal in the allocation of Covid-19 vaccines, saying she was not opposed against certain BJP ruled states getting more doses but her state also needed adequate vaccines to combat the dreaded pandemic.

“I am not sure if and when the 3rd wave strike but we must ensure that the people, especially the vulnerable sections in Bengal are vaccinated on time with adequate supply from the Centre,” Banerjee told a media conference at Nabanna, the state secretariat.

“We need some 14 crore vaccines but so far we got only 2.12 crore. We needed 75 lakh doses for this month but we got only 25 lakh so far. Whereas I hear that some of the BJP ruled states, including Madhya Pradesh and UP got more. I do not mind or oppose that some states are getting more but we do need adequate vaccines to ensure the safety of the people of Bengal from the pandemic.” Banerjee said and added that she also wrote a fresh letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday requesting to ensure to supply vaccines for the state.
