Man from Gujarat held after death of victim of blackmailing

Shillong, June 25: A person was arrested for causing the death of a woman from Mawkyrwart.

“On the basis of a written FIR lodged by Smti. Balapynhun Nongrum, resident of Mawkyrwat Village, South West Khasi Hills District, Meghalaya, it was reported that her sister, allegedly died by suicide by hanging on the 19th April, 2026 at around 6:40 PM due to continuous blackmail, threats, and intimidation by an accused person who had allegedly threatened to circulate her private photographs and videos through WhatsApp and Instagram.

Accordingly, a case was registered vide Mawkyrwat Women Police Station Case No. 04/2026, U/S 77/79/351(3)/108 BNS, R/W Sec. 66E/67A IT Act and investigation was taken up immediately.

During the course of investigation, the accused person was traced to Surat District, Gujarat, and was arrested on 23rd June, 2026 at about 2:30 PM by a team of South West Khasi Hills District Police with the assistance of Palsana Police Station, Surat District, Gujarat. The details of the accused person:-

Shri. Sachin Nishad (22yrs) S/o. Yogendra Nishad

  • R/o. 687,Bhidoor, AmbedkarNagar, UP-224155, PS-Baskhri.

The accused is being produced before the Hon’ble Court today within the period of transit remand granted by the Learned JMFC, Surat.
