Marwari body sets up Covid care unit,quarantine centre

Shillong, May 20: Marwari Yuva Manch, Shillong and Marwari Samaj have set up a Covid care unit and quarantine centre for Covid positive cases at Balika Vidyalaya School, Keating Road.

The work for setting up of the unit started on May 12 and it was completed on May 19 and the same was handed over to health department on May 20.

The unit was inaugurated by AL Hek, Health and Family Welfare Minister in the presence of Ram Kumar S, Mission Director, National Health Mission.

The 32-bed facility will be managed and governed by NHM, Meghalaya. The unit will treat patients with mild to moderate Covid infection.

Food distribution  

Marwari Yuva Manch has undertaken setting up the infrastructure required for the Covid care unit and quarantine centre and they will also provide food for the patients and medical staff on a daily basis and will undertake any other non-medical work for running the unit.

The unit was planned looking at the rising number of cases in the East Khasi Hills district and to support the state government’s efforts in fighting the pandemic.

The Marwari Yuva Manch is a voluntary organisation and during the second wave of the pandemic, it has undertaken projects like distribution of masks and delivery of freshly prepared food along with requested medicines to home isolated Covid 19 positive patients and their families.
