Adokgre, July 27: Several women’s organisations here in North Garo Hills have joined hands in protesting against a junior PWD engineer for allegedly sexually abusing a minor.
Hundreds of local residents and activists took out a rally on Monday. According to local sources, the 54-year-old accused, Rothindra Napak Marak, was caught with two females, one of whom is suspected to be a minor from West Garo Hills, in the government bungalow on July 22.
Marak later lodged an FIR saying the women were his sisters and the mob attempted to rape them after it broke into government’s property. Three youths were later arrested.
Members of Mother’s Union in Adokgre have met the families of the two to investigate into the case. The sources said the NGO members would request the district social welfare to lodge an FIR.
