Shillong, Aug 25: Mawlai group, Sur Ki Nong Mawlai (voice of people of Mawlai) ,on Wednesday burnt effigies of Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui, DGP R Chandranathan, East Jaintia Hills SP Jagpal Singh Dhanoa and East Khasi Hills SP (traffic), Shailendra Bamaniya,who officiated as SP (city) , near Mawlai petrol pump in protest against the killing of former general secretary of HNLC Cherishstarfield Thangkhiew . The leaders of pressure groups reiterated suspension of police officials involved in the killing of Thangkhiew.
Police team of East Khasi Hills and East Jaintia Hills had led the operations leading to the death of Thangkhiew on August 13 though, according to the police, the intention was to arrest him to question in connection with IED blasts in Khliehriat and Laitumkhrah.
The speakers at the gathering near Mawlai petrol pump expressed surprise over Rymbui continuing as home minister though he offered to quit the post.
The group has decided to carry out signature campaign on August 27 in Mawlai.
