Meghalaya hands over body of Bangladesh leader

Shillong, Aug 31: The body of Bangladesh youth awami league leader, Ishaque Ali Khan Panna was handed over to Bangladesh on Saturday through Dawki-Tamabil integrated check point in the presence of police officers and officials.

The West Jaintia Hills SP C. Syrti said the process was completed after 11 am and the authorised persons from Bangladesh left with the body in an ambulance.

A BSF official said the body was taken to his native pace in Nam village, Banani, Dhaka.

Earlier, Deputy Chief Minister in-charge home Prestone Tynsong said since they suspect murder, forensic examination will reveal the actual cause of death.

A police source from East Jaintia Hills said samples were already taken for forensic examination since it is suspected that the victim was strangulated leading to asphyxia.

The body of Panna was recovered on August 26 in a betelnut plantation in East Jaintia Hills.

The development comes after the awami league leader and former Bangladesh prime minister Sheikh Hasina was ousted from power.
