
Shillong, June 22: Priyank Kanoongo, Chairperson, National Commission for Protection of Child Rights has asked the stateĀ government to send the students of Madrasas in Meghalaya to normal schools pointing out his recent visit to South West Garo Hills where it was revealed about students getting education about life after death (Akhirat).
“I interacted with the students of the Madrasa, I asked them about their education and the reply was it was for Akhirat (life after death), they are preparing themselves for the day of judgment, a video was also taken about the matter”, Kanoongo said.
The chairperson said the state government should do a survey of children in Madrasas in Meghalaya so that they can have formal education.

The video was of Mirjumla Majar Sharif, Hafizia Madrasa, Monabari, South West Garo Hills. The visit of the chairperson to the Madrasa was in April this year.
According to the government data, there are two madrasas in East Khasi Hills and three in West Garo Hills.
There are 494 students in madrasas in Meghalaya. The muslim students are 460 and non-muslims are 34.
