Minister opens NEDFi’s new Guwahati branch

26th Foundation Day celebrated  

Guwahati, Aug 9: The North Eastern Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (NEDFi), a premier financial institution in the North-East with its head office at Dispur, Guwahati and branch offices all across North-East, celebrated its 26th Foundation Day and opened a new branch in Guwahati on Monday.

The Corporation has completed twenty-six years since its establishment in 1995.

In a statement on Monday, the NEDFi said the Corporation has provided loans to over 7000 projects in eight states of the North East.

It has also taken up several development initiatives through its CSR activities. Through its varied activities and active engagement with thousands of entrepreneurs in the region, NEDFi has become a household name in the region.

To commemorate the occasion, NEDFi organised several activities dedicated to the people of the region.

To give support to entrepreneurs of Kamrup district, the Corporation set up NEDFi Guwahati Branch in Dispur on the NEDFi House premises. The branch office was inaugurated by Chandra Mohan Patowary,  Minister of Industry and Commerce.

With this, NEDFi will be able to cater to the entrepreneurs of Kamrup district. The minister appreciated NEDFi’s initiative which will provide dedicated support for enterprise creation in the district.

The minister also inaugurated a “Clearance Sale of Artisanal Products of NER” at NEDFi House. The objective of the sale was to provide market linkage to artisans and weavers of North East under CSR initiative of NEDFi, where products of ASRLM Clusters and NEHHDC and artisans of NE will be available. The sale counter will remain open till September 8.

An MoU was also signed between NEDFi and Federation of Industries of North-Eastern Region (FINER) in presence of the minister for promoting and nurturing entrepreneurship, generating employment and creating empowerment of weaker sections.

On the occasion, NEDFi also felicitated select entrepreneurs in the presence of chief guest KN Hazarika, former CMD of NEDFi .

In his address, Hazarika appreciated NEDFi’s journey so far and encouraged team NEDFi to reach to more people of the region with its mandate for economic development of the North-East.

PVSLN Murty CMD NEDFi welcomed all the participants and dignitaries and acknowledged the support of NEDFi’s stakeholders in its 26 year journey so far.

NEDFi also installed a time capsule on its premises, which is a historic cache of documents, photos, information which were buried underground for intended discovery by future generations someday.

The day’s programme concluded with a Foundation Day virtual talk by C.S. Setty, Managing Director, SBI (Retail & Digital Banking), who spoke on the topic “Financial Inclusion and Digital Banking.” Among other things, Setty addressed ways to improve digital interface with customers, to use the digital space to promote the habit of investment and savings, exploring deposits that can be mobilised digitally and said that all stakeholders in the system should constantly engage with customers to educate and guide people in the digital space.
