Shillong, Oct 30: The Jaiñtia National Council (JNC) has expressed surprise at Cabinet Minister Kyrmen Shylla’s support for the railway project in East Jaintia Hills.
In a statement, JNC said it was surprising how could the minister, who is an MLA from Jaintia Hills, not know that the railway project would not be helpful to the district.
Meanwhile, in these past months, the council met the minister to express its opposition to the railway project.
The council said while the MLAs from Jaintia Hills spoke little about the development of the region, all of them were vocal about the railway project.
“If the government wants to give development to the district why not give colleges and residential schools? Why not address the unemployment issue,” JNC said.
The council will start an awareness programme throughout the district on this railway project.
