Minorities students union defends appointment

She is also posted as Principal of Government Girls’ Higher Secondary School, Tura.

On the claim that Begum is arbitrarily holding the post of DSEO, Tura without any office order, the organisation said that the Governor and the Education Department had notified on April 16, 2021 that Begum is allowed to hold the charge of the post of Joint Director of School Education & Literacy and District School Education Officer, West Garo Hills, and also to exercise the administrative powers including the powers to function as draw and disbursement Officer (DDO).

She had joined as Sub Divisional School Education Officer (SDSEO), Dadenggre on March 8, 2017 and after promotion from SDSEO, she joined as principal on November 19, 2019. With this, it is known that Begum is no more SDSEO, Dadenggre and hence the statement of pressure groups that Begum is SDSEO, Dadenggre is fabricated and far away from truth, the students’ body said.

The organisation said that Begum is a gazetted public servant under government’s promotional job and she has every legal and statutory right to hold any desirable posts in education department.

“Hence, preventing her promotion is unconstitutional, violation of natural justice and unjustifiable,” they said.

Earlier, local organisations from Tura town had opposed the state government’s move to allow Begum, to hold dual charge as DSEO, Tura, and demanded that she be immediately removed.
