Exams first, classes later, say school authorities

The classes were held from 10 to 12 pm and some schools extended the timing to 12.30 pm.

The junior section of St John’s Laban School did not have classes as they wanted to compete the examination first.

In the near by Assamese LP School, only five students turned up out of 65.

“One student went back saying his friend did not come, while a mother took another student saying they are staying in Lumparing . AnotherĀ  student did not feel good and hence went back”, a teacher said.

Another problem is that the students are feeling cold due to winter.

She said the school has to finish exams too.

The principal of Laban Bengalee Girls’ Higher Secondary School, Chhanda Bhattacharjee said the students and parents showed enthusiasm in resumption of lower classes.

“I have seen the students showing unrest when they are at home, hence they like to be back in school”, she said.

“Only students of class 5 were allowed today and they have to finish exams”, she said.

The school allowed only two students to sit on a bench considering the COVID situation.
