A petition in this regard came up for hearing on Tuesday before the High Court of Meghalaya.

The government, through the Advocate General, had sought extension of time to hold the examination.

The advocate for the respondents, P Yobin pointed out that though the government in December last year had fixed the examination for March-April this year, it could not be held. Later a notification was issued to hold the examination in August.

However, the advocate general made a submission that a revised action plan and timeline was fixed by the government and according to the plan the examination will be held in October.

Hence, the court granted the extension of time to hold the examination in October.

Earlier, the counsel for the respondents submitted that failure of the petitioner to hold the examination in March or April, 2021 has caused prejudice to some of the candidates as they are age barred.

However, Justice Ranjit More in his order said that he did not find any merit in the submission inasmuch as clause 2.2 of the notification issued on April 22 this year, makes it clear that if the candidates are 32/37 years as on January 1 of the year in which advertisement was made, then they would be eligible to appear for the examination.
