Mukhla in West Jaintia Hills to get cricket ground

Jowai, Jan 5: The topmost priority in the policy of the Meghalaya Cricket Association, during last few years, has been to establish a ground and related infrastructure to popularise and encourage the local cricket talents in rural areas covering all districts where land identification is facilitated by district association.
In tune with the programme, the formalities for setting up of a cricket ground at Mukhla in West Jaintia Hills district was finalised on January 4. A tripartite lease agreement was signed between Mukhla Dorbar Pyllun, West Jaintia Hills District Cricket Association and Meghalaya Cricket Association, for acquiring an area of 5.93 acres to develop the area into a standard ground with all required facilities.

The land was identified at the initiative of WJHDCA with the support of the local MLA Wailad Shylla, himself an ardent cricket enthusiast and the cooperation of the Mukhla Dorbar Pyllun. The signing agreement presided by Eddystone Shylla, President WJHDCA was attended by Wailad Shylla, MLA, Naba Bhattacharjee President MCA, Rayonald Kharkamni, Vice President, MCA, Dhrubajyoti Thakuria, Treasurer MCA, Weibor Sohlang Secretary and all office bearers of WJHDCA besides Hamran Shylla, President and Hachwa Suna, General Secretary, respectively of Mukhla Dorbar Pyllun – all signatories to the deed agreement.

President of MCA in his address expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Mukhla Dorbar Pyllun for their generosity in agreeing to hand over the land parcel on the roadside, a few km from the highway with good communication and logistics. Before the signing, the entire team inspected the site and expressed satisfaction of the location and land configuration suitable for cricket. A standard football stadium is also under construction, in an adjacent plot. MCA is committed to supporting all such initiatives to strengthen the promotion of cricket at the grassroots level root level on a sustained basis.
