Mukul accuses MDA of depriving revenue due to illegal coal mining
Shillong, Aug 20: Trinamool Congress leader Mukul Sangma has accused the NPP-led MDA government of depriving the coal miners and the state of revenue due to illegal mining of coal in the state.
Recently, illegal coal mining was reported from a remote area in Shallang, West Khasi Hills resulting in the death of a minor and injury to another. ( Seized coal in picture)
Speaking at the launch of the membership drive at Pynthorumkhrah on Saturday, Mukul said, “This is the government, who has deprived the coal miners. This is the government who has deprived the resources which are accrued to the state’s exchequer to legal mining because illegal mining continues and when illegal mining continues the resources don’t come to the government. The state is deprived of the resources and revenue.”
He said the district councils, which also have the share of such resources, are also being deprived.
“You will be disturbed to know that for more than 3 years, the employees of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) have not been paid their salaries. How insensitive this government is and how the ugly face of irregularities and corruption is manifesting itself, you can easily understand,” Mukul said.
Dethrone MDA govt in 2023
Mukul also appealed to the people of the state to dethrone the government in 2023.
“2023 is crucial. Let us be part of this great story where we all come together and…be able to embark upon a new story. We will rebuild the state where Meghalaya will have enough opportunities for our youths. We will rebuild the state as a destination for education and hospitality, which is the most inclusive sector to provide sustainable opportunities,” Mukul said.
He said the present state government wants to defame Meghalaya.
According to the former chief minister, the MDA government is not even scared of God as they want to make Meghalaya a den of gambling.
“Do you want to be known as people who belong to a state which is a destination for gambling, a destination for all sinful acts? We don’t want our state to be known as a destination for all the vices. We want Meghalaya to be a destination consistent with the name and fame of our state, destination for education, destination of hospitality sector,” he added.
