Multiple punishments for convicted cop Nurul Islam
Convict has to spend 25 years in jail under various sections besides paying fine of Rs 7.53 lakh

Shillong, March 28: The special judge, POCSO court, East Khasi Hills on Monday awarded life imprisonment and multiple punishments besides fine to the convicted police officer Nurul Islam, who raped two sisters in 2013 while he was the officer-in-charge of Ampati police station.
According to the order, Nurul is sentenced to imprisonment for life under section 376 (2) of the IPC and he has to pay a fine of Rs 3 lakh to the survivor number 2.
The court also awarded rigorous imprisonment for seven years under section 10 of the POCSO Act and a fine of Rs 1 lakh to be paid to the survivor number 1 and survivor number 2 separately.
Another punishment is imprisonment of one year under section 342 of IPC and fine of Rs 1000 to be paid to survivor number 1, 2 and 3 separately.
He was also imprisoned of five years under section 354 of the IPC besides a fine of Rs 50, 000 to survivor number 1 and 2 separately.
Other punishments include imprisonment for ten years under section 450 of IPC and fine of Rs 1 lakh to be paid to survivor number 2, imprisonment of two years under section 506 of the IPC and fine of Rs. 50,000 to be paid to survivor number 2 and in default of payment of fine the convict will undergo another three months of imprisonment for each default excluding the fine imposed under section 342 of the IPC in default of which the convict will undergo one more month of imprisonment. The sentence will run concurrently.
