Nagaland to oppose Protected Area Permit

Kohima, Sept 3 (NNN): Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio (seen in picture taken from a post on X), on the question of Free Movement Regime (FMR), has reiterated the Nagaland Cabinet’s decision to oppose Protected Area Permit (PAP) and FMR.

Rio said this on Tuesday on the Seventh Session of the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly that commenced on September 2 at the Nagaland Legislative Assembly Secretariat, Kohima.

The Nagaland Chief Minister said that during a meeting with the Union Home Minister, he conveyed the decision taken by the Nagaland State Government and said that he (Rio) was hopeful that the Centre would review the demands of the Nagaland Government.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister and Minister-in-charge of Home and Border Affairs, Y. Patton, while replying to a starred question this afternoon raised by NPF MLA Achumbemo Kikon on the issue of Protected Area Permit (PAP) and border fencing, said that the Ministry of Home Affairs had reimposed the Protected Area Permit in Manipur, Mizoram and Nagaland with effect from December 17, 2024 due to security concerns in the border areas of the states. He also informed the house that as of today, there is no report of an active fencing along the 215 km stretch of the India- Myanmar border in the State.
