Natural calamity affects 949 people in state

Shillong, May 6: As many as 949 villagers were affected due to rain, thunderstorm and strong wind in parts of the state, on May 5.

According to the state disaster management authority, damages to 949 people were reported from 29 villages.

483 houses were damaged and the number of infrastructure damage is 3.

Seven districts were affected.

In East Khasi Hills, the affected areas are Mawphlang, Mawryngkneng and Mawkynrew.

In West Khasi Hills,  Nongstoin and Mawshynrut and in Eastern West Khasi Hills,  Mairang were affected.

The affected areas in other districts are Thadlaskein and Amlarem in West Jaintia Hills, Wapung and Saipung in East Jaintia Hills, Baghmara and Chokpot in South Garo Hills and Mawkyrwat in South West Khasi Hills.

Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said rice, CGI sheets and other relief materials were provided to the affected people.
