PRESS RELEASE

“The MeTTA-NEHU with due concern notes that Prof. P. S. Shukla, the errant and absconding VC of NEHU is attempting to disrupt the smooth statutory functioning of the Academic Council and the University as such by raising objections that can only be treated as derived from the morass of untruth and disinformation. To rave and rant in an undignified and unsavoury manner at Professor Sherwin May Sungoh who is legitimately running the university as Vice-Chancellor-in-charge in office under statute 2(A)(2) betrays a lack of knowledge of NEHU Act, Statutes, Ordinances and Regulations and more disturbingly, Prof.Shukla is patently demonstrating his anti-tribal and anti-woman chauvinistic mindset. It has to be stated very clearly that the university community including honourable members of Academic Council stand unitedly with Prof. Sungoh to carry out their collective statutory role in ensuring the efficient conduct of the Academic Council to resolve all critically pending academic matters in the larger interest of students, teachers, employees and the public in general. In trying to maliciously stall the holding of the  Academic Council, Professor P.S.
Shukla is revealing his true colours of plotting and conniving to work against the interest of
students especially the tribal student stakeholders of Meghalaya and other sister Northeastern states. Sinister and duplicitous designs of such kinds will not be tolerated and the MeTTA most unequivocally condemns this anti-tribal and anti-women stance taken by Professor Shukla and call upon right-thinking citizens of the state and conscientious people in general to condemn this reprehensible conduct.
The MeTTA stands firm with Prof. S. M. Sungoh to hold the Academic Council and would like to question Prof. Shukla why did he not raise similar objections when Prof. N. Saha conducted the Academic Council earlier? Is it because Prof. S. M. Sungoh is a local tribal and an honourable lady who enjoys the respect of the entire state of Meghalaya and indeed, the country?
The MeTTA, therefore, affirms its support to and solidarity with Professor Sherwin May
Sungoh and cautions Prof. Shukla to desist from adopting stances and positions which are anti tribal and chauvinistic”.
