NIA arrests TMC’s Gram Panchayat candidate Manoj Ghosh

Kolkata, July 10 (UNI): The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday arrested TMC’s Gram Panchayat candidate Manoj Ghosh accused of storing explosives, illegal arms and ammunition at his Birbhum home, official sources said.

The Central Counter Terrorism Law Enforcement Agency in India NIA on Monday summoned the accused to its Nalhati office and arrested him after several hours of interrogation following an unsatisfactory answer for allegedly storing arsenal and explosives.

The NIA recently raided his house and seized those arsenal, sources added.

Repolling for the three-tier Panchayat took place on Monday in 697 booths spanning 19 districts of West Bengal. The ruling Trinamool Congress alleged that its Tamluk Town president, Chanchal Khanra, faced a brutal attack.

Taking to Twitter, the party said, “We are deeply shocked to hear about the brutal attack on Tamluk Town President Chanchal Khanra by @BJP4Bengal goons. ”

” After physically assaulting Khanra, the assailants left him severely injured and set his bike on fire, ” the party further alleged.  It’s outrageous that the BJP, which deployed Central forces for maintaining ‘law & order’ during Panchayat elections, is resorting to gross violence, just one day later, ” it stated.

“This blatant hypocrisy and disregard for democracy are extremely disturbing, ” averred the party.

The State Election Commission on Sunday in a notification ordered repolling in altogether 697 booths, which went to three-tier Panchayat polling on Saturday.
