Shillong, July14: Mirchi RJ Nicky J’s fight against indiscriminate littering for a cleaner Shillong continued on Wednesday.
The campaign was initiated by Nicky J of Radio Jockey of Mirchi 91.1 Shillong as part of My Shillong My Pride campaign at Umpling enroute Ishyrwat which had turned into a dump yard due to the indiscriminate dumping of garbage.
The campaign started on July 9 with Nicky J staging a silent protest for 6-7 hours a day.
The concerned citizens from different parts of the city joined him as a mark of protest and finally on Wednesday, after 4 days, the Dorbar Shnong, Umpling supported the campaign by cleaning up the site.
The headman of Umpling appreciated the initiative taken up my Nicky J and thanked him for motivating them to keep the area and the adjoining places clean.
The headman assured that henceforth there will be strict vigilance and efforts to nab the culprits involved in indiscriminate dumping of garbage.
RJ Nicky J asserted that the clean up was a temporary solution to the problem and demanded that the state government should immediately come up with a comprehensive community based waste management plan and also to find an alternative location to shift the present landfill at Marten.
