Shillong,Jan 19: The sessions court in Jowai on Wednesday convicted NPP leader Nidamon Chullet to life imprisonment in connection vwith a murder case in 2008.
The court has asked the superintendent of prison, Jowai to take him into custody.
The court also sentenced the co-accused for seven years of imprisonment.
Chullet holds the posts of NPP working president in-charge Jaintia Hills and president of Jaintia Hills Truck Owners Association
Chullet and another co-accused identified as Coming Raban had murdered E.Lhuid , a relative of retired IAS official M Lhuid, in February 2008 in Jowai following a brawl.
Chullet is also one of the accused involved in assaulting activists Agnes Kharshiing and Amita Sangma in November 2018 while they were probing illegal mining of coal.
Besides life imprisonment, Chullet will have to give Rs 50,000 as fine and Rabon Rs 10,000.
