
Shillong, Feb 27: The opposition on Thursday failed to file nominations for the posts of CEM and Chairman of the KHADC clearing the way for VPP MDC from Lyngkyrdem Laitkroh Shemborlang Rynjah (CEM) and Mawkhar-Pynthorumkhrah member Strong Pillar Kharjana (Chairman)
A formal election will be held on Friday.
Rynjah and Kharjana together filed their nomination papers for the CEM and Chairman posts after taking oath as new members of the KHADC.
“After scrutinizing the nomination papers, they are found to be in order and they are accepted. Since there is no other contestant they are all set to be elected uncontested,” Secretary of the KHADC B Sohtun told reporters.
The VPP will form the new executive committee with 7 members led by Rynjah.
The proposed Executive Members are Powell Sohkhlet (Pariong-Mawthadraishan), Seiborlang Warbah(Mawkynrew) Isnei Hinge (Umroi) Pynkhraw Kharjahrin(Mawkyrwat) Aibandaplin Lyngdoh Nonglait(Mylliem), Deity Majaw(Laitumkhrah) and Winston Tony Lyngdoh( Nongthymmai).
The VPP wanted Mawhati MDC, Kynjohlang Rangtong for the post of Deputy Chairman.

Earlier, the two autonomous district councils (ADCs) in the Khasi and Jaintia Hills region witnessed the oath taking ceremony by the 58 newly elected members.
The oath of office to the 29 members of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) was administered by the East Khasi Hills District Deputy Commissioner RM Kurbah at the council’s hall here.
Titosstar Chyne takes oath in Khasi
Former KHADC chief and United Democratic Party (UDP) MDC from Sohra Titosstarwell Chyne was the only one who took oath in Khasi while the other members took their oath in English.
Three MLAs of which two are from UDP – Synshar Roy Kupar Lyngdoh from Nongspung-Sohiong and Pius Marwein from Langrin – and one from the National People’s Party (NPP) Sosthenes Sohtun from Jirang – also took oath as newly elected members of the council.
Four women MDCs were also elected to the KHADC, of which two are from Voice of the People Party (VPP) – Deity Majaw from Laitumkhrah-Malki and Aibandaplin L Nonglait from Mylliem and two from NPP – Grace Mary Kharpuri from Nongshken and Rona Khymdeit from Nongpoh.
All the 17 VPP MDCs are new faces as they were elected for the first time as members of the district council.
West Jaintia Hills Deputy Commissioner also administered oath of office to the 29 members of the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC).

JHADC chief Thombor Shiwat along with four former CEMs – Hambertus Nongtdu, Madonbai Rymbai, Andrew Shullai and Moonlight Pariat also took oath.
The NPP has 14 MDCs, 8 VPP, 3 UDP, 3 Congress and 1 Independent.
