No information about illegal immigrants to state after Assam action: Prestone

Shillong, July 25: Police are yet to get any information regarding the infiltration of illegal immigrants into Meghalaya.
Deputy Chief Minister in-charge of Home (Police), Prestone Tynsong said on Friday, “Till today there is no information of any infiltration into the state.”
He assured that the government will update the public if any detection or infiltration is reported.
Earlier on Thursday, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma reviewed the situation after Assam started a drive against illegal immigrants.
Tynsong also informed that the state government has taken proactive measures to prevent any potential influx of illegal immigrants, particularly given the ongoing eviction drives and deportation of illegal immigrants in Assam.
“We already had a meeting with all the concerned departments. We already instructed the Director General of Police (DGP) and also all concerned district administrations and the SPs to be more vigilant in case there is any kind of influx through Assam,” he said.
The deputy chief minister assured that security forces, including the BSF, customs, and state police, are on high alert and have been instructed to be more vigilant and proactive in detecting illegal immigrants within the state.
Concerns raised
Tura MDC Bernard Mark and Mahila Congress leader Joplyn Shylla also expressed concern over the plan of USTM to give shelter to evicted immigrants.
Border issue
The joint inspection by the regional committees of Assam and Meghalaya to the remaining six areas of difference may be delayed due to the upcoming Assembly polls in Assam, Tynsong said.
Tynsong is the chairman of the regional committee for Ri Bhoi district.
