According to Mukul his decision to leave the Congress was conscious and deliberate.

“I have taken a very conscious decision, it is not that I have just jumped out not thinking what to do, not having a plan for future”, he said.

He asserted his commitment to Meghalaya’s development.

“I definitely scripted chart of paths for the state of Meghalaya as one of the members who have had the privilege of serving the state in building the state together with other leaders of the state.”

According to Mukul, protecting Meghalaya’s interests is a collective responsibility, and sometimes requires exploring alternative routes.

When asked his brother Zenith leaving TMC has affected the family relations,  Mukul emphasized that his public life is not a family monopoly.

“Family remains family, but I want to tell you one thing… once I decide to be in public life, I do not remain a monopoly of my family members alone,” Mukul said.

“My work over the decades, seen by people, will be a testimony to what I say”, he said.

Mukul is confident that his approach to public life, focused on serving the people rather than personal interests, will prove to be the right one. “I may love my brother, but I have hundreds of thousands of brothers and sisters, nephews, and nieces… that’s the conviction with which I have been working,” he added.

Regarding Zenith’s decision, Mukul added “He might have thought his aspirations will be fulfilled if he shifts, but he may be wrong… I will prove it”.

TMC MDCs confused

Opposition Leader Mukul Sangma has admitted that some party members, who are confused and in a dilemma, are weighing alternative options in view of the GHADC elections.

“Let me be really frank… it is a fact that some of the colleagues and comrades in TMC are in a little bit of a dilemma, they are in a little bit of confusion,” Sangma told reporters on Wednesday.

According to the TMC leader, some GHADC members met him, seeking guidance as to whether to contest as independents or explore other options.

“When they know that I remain glued to TMC, then they are definitely confronted… some kind of political dilemma, it is a natural thing,” he said.

Sangma opposed the views of some that TMC is a racial party, and added that every party has its objectives and purpose.

“Any party should not be tagged with any community… TMC is one of the parties fighting against the ruling dispensation as an effective and dedicated opposition,” he said.

He accused other political forces of trying to disrupt TMC’s momentum, but expressed confidence in the party’s strength.

“Every political party is after TMC, and we are withstanding… 2028 is the target,” Sangma added.
