Not many complaints under Benami Transaction Act

Shillong, Feb 23: A single case was registered under the Benami Transaction Act.
This was informed by Chief Minister Conrad Sangam in the Assembly on Friday.
He was replying to a question raised by VPP legislator from Nongkrem Ardent Basaiawmoit.
Conrad said investigation is conducted based on complaints filed.
The chief minister said apart from the one case, no formal complaint has come from any quarters.
Conrad said a committee will be set up once rules are framed as per the amended Benami Transaction Act, 2018.
“The rules are in fact ready as final consultation with department is done and very shortly the rules will be out,” he said.
The chief minister said complaints can be filed before a first class magistrate or superintendent of police of a particular district.
Saleng A Sangma said influx can be checked if the Act is implemented seriously.
He also referred to a checking conducted by KHADC where tribal were seen protecting non-tribals.
