Not ready to surrender party president post: Pala

Shillong, Oct 23: Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee president Vincent Pala has said he is not ready to surrender his post amid media reports about a change of leadership.

“I will not be a stumbling block to anyone who wants to lead the party in the state, but at the same time، I should not surrender…. I should not betray my party”, Pala told this reporter.

The MPCC chief said he was appointed in August 2023 for five years.

According to Pala, he has not heard anyone within the party demanding a change of leadership, and the MLAs who have left the party did not cite any leadership issue

“Within the party, I have not heard any demand for change. Be it BJP, NPP or UDP, sometimes it is very difficult to please everyone”, he said.

“I will be the happiest person to hand over the charge to anyone. I never fought for the post of the president, but most of them wanted me to be there.. I am a human being, and I may not be able to please everyone. The demand for change may be from those who left the party, but now they are feeling isolated or neglected, and hence they want to come back to the party, and they also have many friends within the party.. If they want change,  they should come openly and discuss the matter,” Pala said.
