Shillong, Apr 8: Veteran journalist and author Sumar Sing Sawian passed away on Friday after a prolonged illness.
Sawian was associated with the Khasi newspaper Aphira for a long time. He was also a regular writer for local newspapers. Sawian was also credited for translating Rabindranath Tagore’s Gitanjali to Khasi language.

Sawian was the bureau chief of PTI here and was associated with All India Radio and Doordarshan, Shillong.
The octogenarian author was the receiver of U Tirot Sing Award for his contributions to art and literature.
