Nurses meet Ampareen, reject contract appointment

Shillong, July 24: A group of nurses on Wednesday met Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh to do away with the recruitment of nurses on contract basis as they wanted permanent appointment.
They also submitted a memorandum to the minister rejecting the contract recruitment ordered by the department.
“We demand that the contract recruitment should be cancelled but the recruitment of nurses should be permanent to ensure that the job they do will be stable,” said the memorandum.
According to the nurses, the eligible applicants should be appointed according to their merit.
“The examination should be conducted in a transparent manner by providing a security mechanism during the examination to prevent any unethical practices. The names of those who have been employed and those who have not been employed should be made public along with the marks obtained by the candidates in the examination to ensure that the application process will be fair and transparent”, they said.
The nurses urged the minister to expedite the announcement of the results.
They also stressed the need of relaxing the age of some applicants and wanted refund of money of those who had applied for contractual jobs.
