Shillong, Oct 6: Police on Thursday arrested the main accused who assaulted Ranji cricket player Lakhan Singh.
The police are also searching for others who were part of the gang.
Police said on October 5, an FIR was received at Cantonment Beat House that on October 4 around 9.20 pm, the ranji player was assaulted by a group of miscreants near Anjalee Cinema Hall while he was on his way to Jhalupara.
One car overtook his scooty and asked him to stop after which some miscreants came out of the car and started assaulting him. As a result of which, he sustained minor injuries on his face.
“In this connection, a case vide Sadar PS case No. 274(10)2023 u/s 325/341/506/34 IPC has been registered and one miscreant was arrested on 5th October, 2023. He is being produced in court after police custody. Efforts are on to nab the others involved”, the SP(city) Vivek Syiem said in a statement, on Friday.
