Shillong, Sept 9: The original report of the justice T Vaiphei inquiry commitee on the death of  former HNLC leader Cherishtarfield Thangkhiew was not placed before the Assembly on Friday.

A source said that atleast the MLAs of the House should have been given the original report without concealing the names of those involved in the operations and witnesses.

The report tabled in the House was different as many names were missing and some sentences were incomplete.

The chief minister Conrad Sangma and Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui told reporters that  the names were omitted as per the recommendation of the commission.

Conrad said since the investigation is still going on in some cases, the names were omitted.

However, when contacted to know about the original report and the one placed in the Assembly, Vaiphei said, “I don’t want not make any comments. I have submitted by report,it is upto the government to accept or reject it”.

According to sources, the names were covered and thereafter photo copies of the report were made as per the decision of the home and political department.

An official with the home and political department also echoed the views of the chief minister and home minister.

However, in the portion of recommendations, the commission did not mention about the need to conceal the names of those who were involved and the witnesses while the suggestion to conceal the names was during the hearing of the commission and not while preparing the report.

A government advocate, however, said that it is the discretion of the government to avoid names in the report since it involves safety of the witnesses and those whose were involved in the operations.
