Pala wants speedy recruitment to 7th & 8th police battalions

Shillong, June 10: Shillong MP Vincent Pala wanted the state government to recruit personnel for the newly approved seventh and eighth battalions of the police.

In a letter to the Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Thursday, Pala urged the government to expedite the recruitment process of the duly approved two battalions, which, according to him can mitigate the unemployment crisis faced by our state.

Pointing out that there is an alarming rise in the rate of unemployment in Meghalaya, the MP said as per the report of Centre for Monitoring of Indian Economy (CMIE), the unemployment rate in Meghalaya stands at 13 percent which is the highest ever in the history of Meghalaya.

According to Pala, every year, the colleges and universities are producing educated youths who do not have adequate opportunities of employment.

Moreover, around 2 million youths who were studying or working in other parts of India have returned to the state.

The Congress MP also said although some who were working outside have returned and rejoined their previous employment, there are many who were compelled to stay back as their employers are not  paying salaries.
