Paul explores non honking, pedestrian zones in city

Shillong, April 4:Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh on Tuesday carried out a spot inspection of Khyndailad to explore zones for non honking and movement of pedestrians.

Lyngdoh said, “We have identified Khyndailad as a major area that should be exclusively for pedestrians. It is only then you will be able to enjoy the safety of people using the road and also the general welfare of people who are not inside their cars or on their bikes.”

The minister said, “The task ahead for us is to achieve a few milestones to have few areas in Shillong as pedestrian zones”.

He said the inspection was an offshoot of a meeting he had convened a week back on two points- pedestrian zone and a no-honking zone.

He said that it has become very difficult for pedestrians to walk in Shillong and the amount of honking that is taking place even in front of major hospitals. “We are trying to identify solutions to these problems,” he added.
