Phidalia Toi takes legal course for ‘dignity not for reinstatement’

Shillong, June 27: The former chairperson of state women’s rights commission Phidalia Toi said she will legally fight Social Welfare Minister Paul Lyngdoh to restore her dignity and not for reinstatement of the post.

“I have already resigned on Friday and my legal fight is not to get reinstated but against his ( Paul) gender-based discrimination, abuse of power & character assassination against me”, she said.

Earlier,  in two press conferences, the minister had reiterated the need to remove the chairperson citing that she had campaigned during elections and that she did not attend board meetings.

However, in response, Toi said as the Jowai  candidate was her cousin brother’s son, she only accompanied him to the office of the deputy commissioner but did not enter the office after a prayer meeting held at her residence.

“The issue regarding the election commission is between me and the ECI and I had already clarified my position to the ECI”, she said.

Toi also reiterated that she had attended all the required board meetings of the commission.
