Plea to make border deal MoU public

CM refuses to release agreement

Shillong,March 9: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has refused to make public the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to resolve the border dispute.

Though AITC MLA George Lyngdoh wanted the government to make public the MoU, the chief minister said till the agreement is signed it would be difficult for the government to release the MoU.

Earlier, in reply to a question by Ampareen Lyngdoh (Congress), Conrad said the government is waiting for further discussion with the Ministry of Home Affairs on the MoU  signed between Meghalaya and Assam for resolving six out of twelve areas of difference shared between the two states.

The MoU was signed on January 29 which has been submitted to the Union Home Minister Amit Shah on January 31, for examination and consideration of the MHA.

Conrad also informed that there will be a final agreement to be signed by the two states.

The chief minister said he has decided to refrain from giving micro details of the MoU pending the signing of the final agreement.
