Shillong, June 21: A POCSO victim hanged herself at the government-run shelter home in Mawdiangdiang, on Wednesday.
According to the police, post mortem was done and the body was handed over to the relatives.
Police are ascertaining the reason that led to the minor girl taking the extreme step to end her life.
The 16-year-old girl was sexually assaulted by her uncle in November last year.
After a case was registered at Mawngap police station, the accused was arrested and after the case was chargesheeted, he is in judicial custody.
Following the incident, the victim was handed over to the child welfare committee and later she was lodged at the shelter home in Mawdiangdiang.
Commissioner and Secretary, social welfare department Pravin Bakshi said whether to have an inquiry will be examined upon studying the post mortem report and after
holding discussion with Principal Secretary Social Welfare and officers of the Directorate.
The chairperson of state commission for protection of child rights, Iamon Syiem said inquiry is in process into the matter.
“A minor under Children in Need of Care and Protection (CNCP) passed away this morning. We are deeply grieved.Our heartfelt condolences to the family”, she said.
