Police, administration talk tough, FKJGP chief apologises for violence

Shillong, Oct 28: FKJGP president Dundee C Khongsit has tendered a public apology for the violent incidents in the city during the rally against unemployment sponsored by the pressure group.

Two reporters were also assaulted.

“As president of the organisation, I really apologise in front of all the media. We didn’t expect that the unfortunate incident would happen as before starting the rally, we  appealed to all the youth who have attended the rally that this is a peaceful rally. I would like to extend my apology to them (people who were assaulted) that we feel sorry and we will take the responsibility,” Khongsit said.

Cases registered 

Police said two suo motu cases are being taken up at Laitumkhrah and Sadar police stations.

According to the police, legal action will be taken on the physical assaults and vandalism on pedestrians and commuters.

DC seeks reply from FKJGP

East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Isawanda Laloo said police have been directed to take strict action against the perpetrators.

“A show cause notice has also been issued to the organisers (FKJGP) for violating the conditions of today’s rally”, she said.

While giving permission, the deputy commissioner had made it clear in the letter that if there is any breach of law and order, the organisers will be held accountable.

The DC had also prohibited use of any material potential to be used as a weapon which may lead to breach of law and order.

Earlier, the FKJGP president had pointed out that there is so much of frustration among the youth as there were some who have been victims of the police recruitment which have not been declared  till now,

He, however said, “But it is our duty as leaders to appeal to the youth to kindly be calm I hope we can address their issues and problems at the earliest.”
