Police bust gang linked to transporting Bangladeshis

Shillong, March 19: Police arrested three persons , including a woman in Ri Bhoi for transporting Bangladeshis to India.

In a statement, the district police chief Vivekanand Singh Rathore said based on an information received that some Bangladeshi nationals were travelling from Dawki border to Guwahati by a vehicle,  checking was carried out  near Byrnihat outpost on March 18 around  4 10 pm and the police intercepted a vehicle ( AS-01-FJ-4645 )along with occupants Jannati Sheikh (26), daughter of Mijanur Sheikh, a resident of Jasor, Khulna, Bangladesh with forged Indian Adhaar card  and a driver Raushan Khan, son of  Rashid Khan, a resident of Rangapani, Barpeta, Assam. During interrogation, they both admitted that they are part of an organized network that are involved in trafficking people from Bangladesh to India and vice versa for money without valid documents. In this regard, a case has been registered and the accused have been arrested.

Further, based on interrogation, another person Balajied Khongsun (27), son of Wallambok Japang a resident of Wahlyngkhat, Pynursla East Khasi Hills was arrested on March 19..
