Shillong, Nov 10: Police destroyed seized drugs worth Rs 3.90 crore on Thursday evening.
DGP LR Bishnoi in the presence of senior police officials,including IGP Law and Order,
DIG Eastern Range and SPs,
addressed a press conference at Lumshnong, East Jaintia Hills to announce the destruction of the drugs at Star Cement premises as per the Supreme Court guidelines.
The drugs were seized from Nongpoh, Jowai , Shillong and Nongstoin.
The drugs seized in East Jaintia Hills were not disposed of as the District and Sessions Judge was not available.
A court order is necessary to dispose of the drugs.
Since drugs have to be incinerated, Star Cement was chosen after taking permission from the pollution control board.
As per the supreme court guidelines, open burning of drugs is prohibited.
